Tim Smith, Principal of Wiglaf LLC and Adjunct Professor
at DePaul’s Kellstadt Graduate School of Business, has worked in
science and technology for over 15 years with a focus on the sales and
marketing of business products and services.
At Wiglaf, Dr. Smith serves clients as business researcher
and consultant. As business researcher, Dr. Smith investigates businesses
in industrial markets to uncover best practices in sales and marketing.
This business research has produced over 100 articles in business publications
as well as the Wiglaf Journal. As business consultant, Dr. Smith helps
business to improve their sales and marketing performance. His analytical
approach to sales and marketing provides business executives with measurable
performance in creating customers and capturing profitable revenue.
Some of his past roles include Chief Marketing Officer of
ISB Development, a software subsidiary of Nonolet in Novosibirsk, Russia,
and a Business Development Manager of SPL WorldGroup, a software product
and consulting firm. He has also been a scientific researcher at the University
of Chicago and Notre Dame University. In his scientific research, Dr.
Smith applied quantum mechanics and thermodynamics to improve the understanding
of nanotechnology, semiconductor physics, femptosecond spectroscopy, and
optimal control. His change of focus from science to business sales and
marketing was driven by an interest to help close the gap between the
creation of technological advances and their implementation.
Tim Smith earned a MBA with High Honors in Strategy
and Marketing from the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business
in 2001. In 1995, he earned a Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry from the University
of Chicago. He holds a BS in Chemistry and Physics and BA in Mathematics
from Southern Methodist University. He has also received several awards
for instruction and scholarship.
